What people use a taupe screen for
Taupe is dark enough that a taupe screen gives off very little light — on an OLED or AMOLED phone the dim pixels also draw little power, which makes it a good always-on or bedside screen.
Taupe is a muted, low-saturation color, so it makes a calm, distraction-free background for focus, reading or a video call, and it does not cast a strong tint onto faces.
