What is a white screen?
A white screen is simply a web page filled edge to edge with one solid color — White, hex #FFFFFF, or rgb(255, 255, 255). It is a very light, neutral color: in HSL it sits at 0° hue, 0% saturation and 100% lightness, and its relative luminance is 100.0%. white is one of the standard CSS color names, so it renders identically in every browser.

Check a screen for dead pixels, dust and backlight bleed
A full white field is the fastest way to audit a display. Dead or stuck pixels show as tiny coloured or black dots, dust and fingerprints become obvious, and on an LCD you can judge how even the backlight is across the panel. Do the same check with a black screen and the primary red, green and blue screens to catch every kind of sub-pixel fault.
Use it as a light: tracing pad, fill light or flashlight
Because white light contains every colour, a white screen at full brightness works as a small softbox. Tape thin paper to a tablet showing a white screen and it becomes a tracing light-pad; prop a phone or laptop showing white next to your face to add fill light on a video call; or just use it as an emergency flashlight in a dark room.
A clean background for photos, scans and video
Photographers use a white screen behind small products for a bright, even backdrop, and it gives a neutral, distraction-free background for webcam calls, screen recordings and live streams. A phone showing a white screen also makes a serviceable document-scanning surface.
As a test pattern, a flat white field makes a dead or stuck pixel jump out, and it exercises the red, green and blue sub-pixels.
