What is a black screen?
A black screen is simply a web page filled edge to edge with one solid color — Black, hex #000000, or rgb(0, 0, 0). It is a near-black, neutral color: in HSL it sits at 0° hue, 0% saturation and 0% lightness, and its relative luminance is 0.0%. black is one of the standard CSS color names, so it renders identically in every browser.
Turning a display into a single flat color is more useful than it sounds — as a light source, a test pattern, a video or photo backdrop, or ambient lighting. This page is that color, ready to open full screen or download, with no app to install and nothing uploaded anywhere.

Save battery on OLED and AMOLED phones
On an OLED or AMOLED display every black pixel is completely switched off, so a full black screen draws far less power than any other colour and produces zero light. It is a genuine way to stretch battery life on a phone left on a desk, and the basis of every "pure black" dark-mode wallpaper.
Find backlight bleed, IPS glow and stuck pixels
