About yellow colors

Yellow is the brightest hue at full saturation, which makes it excellent for highlights and warnings and difficult for almost everything else. CSS yellows go from pale lightyellow and lemonchiffon to gold and the pure yellow keyword, plus the muddier khaki and darkkhaki.

Because yellow reflects so much light, yellow text on white is effectively invisible — it needs a dark background or a dark outline to work at all. It pairs naturally with navy, charcoal and deep purple, and a small amount goes a long way; large yellow fills can feel harsh on a screen.

Using these yellow colors

Click any swatch above for that color's full page — hex, RGB, HSL, HSV, CMYK and OKLCH codes, a contrast check against black and white, shade and tint ramps, and its color harmonies. To build a palette around one of these colors, open it in the palette generator or plot it on the color wheel; to convert it to another format, use the color converter; and before using it for text, confirm the pairing in the contrast checker.
