About gray and black colors
Grays and blacks are the backbone of every interface — text, borders, dividers, backgrounds and shadows. The web set runs black, dimgray, gray, darkgray, silver, lightgray and gainsboro, with a famous quirk: darkgray (#A9A9A9) is lighter than plain gray (#808080). Both gray and grey spellings are valid and identical.
A true neutral gray has equal red, green and blue channels; nudging them gives a warm or cool gray that pairs better with your palette. Pure #000000 text on pure white is often considered too stark — a very dark gray like #171717 reads more comfortably while still clearing every contrast threshold.
